NAVCE7.5 - Configuring NAV Client using SSC

Top
Even though computers may have anti-virus active protection switched on, viruses can still sneak into your computer. This usually happens when a new virus infects a computer before the computer has received definitions files which detect that new virus. To detect these viruses, you need to do a full scan. You should set yourself a monthly or bi-monthly schedule to scan all computers in your area. The best way to do this is to use a Virus Sweep. When you start a virus sweep it will immediately begin to scan all server and client computers in a chosen Server Group. The NAV software will keep track of which computers it could not communicate with at the time the virus sweep started. When those computers are switched on and communicate back with their parent server, the virus sweep will begin.
  1. Notify your users ahead of time that you will perform a virus scan of their computers.
  2. Right click on your server group and choose All Tasks - Norton AntiVirus - Start Virus Sweep.

  3. Enter a name to describe this virus sweep. The default name is usually sufficient.

  4. Click Options.
  5. Use the following recommended scan options. Set a low CPU Utilization value to minimize performance degradation on client computers.

  6. Click Advanced.
  7. Use the following recommended options. Make sure Show scan progress on computer being scanned is not ticked. This will prevent the user of a client computer whose computer is being scanned from being confused by the progress indicator window suddenly appearing on their screen.

  8. Click OK twice to return to the Start Virus Sweep window.
  9. Click Start to start the virus sweep.
  10. As the virus sweep starts, the Virus Sweep History window is displayed.
  11. If you close this window, you can return to it at any time by using a right click on the Sever Group and choosing All Tasks - Logs - Virus Sweep History.

  12. If there are multiple entries, select the appropriate virus sweep history you are interested in viewing.
  13. Click View Results...
  14. All server and clients with the chosen Server Group should appear. Check if there are any missing entries and determine why they are missing.
  15. The NAV software will keep track of which computers it could not communicate at the time the virus sweep started. When those computers are switched on and communicate back with their parent server, the virus sweep will begin.
  16. Check the results of the virus sweep after several hours or the next day. The Status for all computer should indicate that it has completed successfully. If there are any computers which have not completed, investigate why, and perform a manual scan of those computers (can be done within SSC).
  17. Note: Once a virus sweep is started, there is not way to stop it.
  18. Note: If you do not want to scan all servers in your Server Group, right click on the main parent server and choose All Tasks - Norton AntiVirus - Start Virus Sweep. The virus sweep will only take place on the parent server and clients of the parent server.
  19. Note: During a virus sweep, all hard disks of all selected computers are scanned.
