NAVCE7.5 - Install - NAV Server

Previous - Top - Next

Preparation

  1. You will need to uninstall any antivirus software which is already running on a server or workstation.
  2. The NAV Server software requires about 220 MB of disk space. Make sure you have enough space on your intended destination drive.
  3. It is recommended that you restart your server before installing this software.
  4. As a precaution, you may wish to temporarily stop any non-critical services running on your server or workstation while the Norton's Antivirus Server software is installed. This will prevent any conflicts between the NAV Server software and your system while installing.
  5. If you are installing the software remotely, you must have administrator rights on the remote computer from your current computer and user account.
  6. The server or workstation which will have NAV Server installed must have the ADMIN$ and C$ administrator shares enabled.
  7. If you are installing the software remotely, you must be able to locate the destination computers using Microsoft Windows browser.

Installing Norton Antivirus Server

  1. Run Disc2 CDSTART.EXE and click [Install Norton AntiVirus Server]

  2. Select the Install action and click Next

  3. (If you decided to take your chances with the Update option, good luck!!!!)

  4. Click Next after reading and accepting the Software License Agreement page.

  5. Select Server program and Alert Management System and click Next.

  6. Browse the network and Add the computers you wish to install NAV Server software. For each computer, you must have made the above preparations. When selecting computers, you may be prompted for the Administrator password of the remote computer. If this is the first time you're installing this software, I recommend you select just one destination computer. Click Next when done.

  7. Setup now displays all destination computers and their respective destination folder and OS. Make any changes required to each destination folder. When you click Next, Setup will check that each destination folder has enough disk space and prompt for any changes.
  8. Create a new Norton Antivirus Server Group or select a group if you're adding a server to an existing group. If you are installing the software to multiple computers and you intend those servers to be members of different groups, just select one group now and you can move the servers and create new groups later using the Symantec System Center. Click Next to continue.

  9. Click OK

  10. Select Automatic startup unless you are installing for a second time and wish to start each NAV service individually for debugging purposes. Click Next

  11. Read the information about the Symantec System Center and click Next.

  12. The Setup program informs you of what the default password is set to. Click Finish to begin installing the software.

  13. The Setup Progress window shows you the installation progress. Installation may take between 5 and 30 minutes (or longer) depending on network traffic, destination computer responsiveness, and number of destination computers.

  14. The Setup process is only complete when it has reached 100% for each destination computer and there are no errors. If errors are recorded, view and make a note of each error. You will need to uninstall NAV Server, correct the cause of the error, and then reinstall NAV Server.
  15. If during the installation a window pops up informing you that the virus definition files are more than 90 days old, just click Close on that window. This is a standard message. The definition files will be updated later.
  16. When the Status for all destination computers is set to Finished, the Action field may indicate Restart necessary. The restart is only necessary to enable the AMS software. You do not need to restart the computers immediately if you will continue to install other NAV software. The NAV Server software service will already have started on the destination computer.

  17. Click Close to complete the Setup procedure.
