NAVCE7.5 - Install - Install Norton AntiVirus Client Remotely

Top - Next
  1. The client software can be installed remotely to a computer running a version of Microsoft Windows NT 4 or Microsoft Windows 2000. This option is best suited to newly created workstations which do not have any pre-existing copies of anti-virus software. It is not possible to install software remotely to Windows 3.x, Windows 95, Windows 98 or Windows ME clients.
  2. Run SSC from the Start menu.
  3. From the Tools menu, choose NT Client Install. This will start the Symantec NT Remote Client Installation Program.

  4. Click Next after reading the Welcome page

  5. Select a computer from the left panel by browsing the network. In the right panel, select the parent server and then click Add. Repeat this process for all clients. You will need to have administrator rights on the remote client computer. If not, you may be prompted for the password when you select a client.

  6. When you have selected the client computers, click Finish.
  7. A Status window will show the installation progress.

  8. If the installation has completed and there are no errors, click Done. The Symantec NT Remote Client Installation Program will finish and return you to Symantec System Center.

  9. No reboot is necessary on the remote clients. The NAV services will start automatically and perform an initial scan of the client's local hard disks. You will notice considerable disk activity for up to several minutes. This is normal.
  10. The clients should appear in the right panel of the SSC when you click on their parent server. If they do not appear after several minutes, go to the client and check that the installation has worked properly. Errors may include an application failure message on screen, or failure to start the NAV services, or incomplete installation such as a missing NAV Start Menu entry.
