Top
  1. Run SSC from the Start menu.
  2. Whenever you start SSC, the Discovery service is run in the background. The Discovery service searches the University network for NAV servers and Server Groups. Do not be concerned if only a few Server Groups are listed. You only need to see the Server Groups you have created.
  3. If your server group is not listed, you should try to run the Discovery service manually. From the Tools menu, choose Discovery Service. Leave the default settings as displayed below. Click Run Discovery Now to start the Discovery service. If the service is already running in the background you will be informed.

  4. Click OK (or Close) to close the box and wait until the Discovery Service has completed, indicated in the information bar at the bottom of the window.

  5. Right click on your server group and select Unlock Server Group.

  6. Enter the default password issued when you installed the NAV Server software.
  7. Below the Server Group name will be listed one or more servers belonging to this group. The red circle with white cross on the Server Group folder icon indicates there is no Primary Server for this group. You will need to make one of these servers the Primary Server for the group. To do this, right click on a server and select Make Server a Primary Server. The Primary Server is the server which will collect updates from softserv and distribution those updates to other servers and clients in its Server Group.

  8. Right click on the Server Group again and select Configure Server Group Password.

  9. Enter a new password to prevent other administrators from accessing your Server Group.
  10. From the View menu, select NAV Corporate Edition.

  11. This will display additional columns in the right panel about each server and client.
  12. This completes the basic configuration of Symantec System Center. Close the SSC by choosing Exit from the Console menu. When prompted to save the console settings, choose Yes.
