  1. Product updates are configured separately from definition updates.
  2. Unlike definition updates which are obtained from primary servers in each group, all servers and clients will obtain product updates from a central sever (softserv).
  3. Right click your Server group and choose Properties.

  4. These settings should propagate to all servers and clients in the Sever Group. To check, right click on each Sever and choose Properties. Each server should have the same settings described above. The checkbox Apply settings to all clients should always remain ticked. Click OK to exit.
  5. We have now instructed the computers how to obtain the product updates. The next step is to instruct the computers when to get product updates.
  6. Right click the Server Group and choose All Tasks - Norton AntiVirus - Virus Definition Manager
  7. In the How Clients Retrieve Virus Definition Updates section, click the checkbox, Download product updates using LiveUpdate.

  8. Then tick the checkbox Schedule client for automatic product updates using LiveUpdate.
  9. Now click the Schedule button.
  10. Schedule daily updates at 12:30pm. This is a convenient time when most computers will be switched on and a majority of staff may be on a lunch break. Product updates occur infrequently.

  11. Click Advanced.

  12. In the Missed Events Options section, tick the box Handle missed events within: and set the hours of the scheduled time to 24.
  13. In the Randomization Options section, tick the box Perform update within plus or minus: and set the minutes of the scheduled time to 60.
  14. Click OK twice to return to the Virus Definition Manager window.
  15. Tick the Do not allow client to modify LiveUpdate schedule box.
  16. Tick the Do not allow client to manually launch LiveUpdate box. This option may be left un-ticked. In certain circumstances, you may wish a client to run LiveUpdate manually if the automated definition and/or product update process is not working. However, it is better to allow this option only in those circumstances.
  17. Click OK to return to the SSC Console.
